Weather vocab

Konnichiwa! Here are the 6 key words students have learnt this week as we start our unit of work on WEATHER: はれ hare (sunny) くもり kumori (cloudy) ゆき yuki (snow) あめ ame (rain) あらし arashi (storm) かぜ kaze (windy). Please google "Japanese weather song" to find a youtube clip from genkijapan.net that helps with pronouncing these words if you want to practise with your children at home!

Dragonfly helicopters

Dear parents and teachers of students in years R - 3/4 - Today Miyamoto sensei showed us the dragon helicopters (taketonbo) and they really are fantastic! They fly so high and you can even catch them again in a boomerang fashion. The children are really excited to learn about them and each make one. Again, this cannot be achieved if we do not have the empty milk cartons (eg 1 L long-life). If you are able to donate some, please be careful not to crease the box as this affects the flying pattern. Just rinse and bring to school. Thankyou!! :)

Long life milk and juice boxes for Rooms 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 28, 29 & 31

Miyamoto sensei and I are planning an exciting lesson for yrs R - 4 students in week 4. We will be making traditional Japanese toys called taketonbo - "dragon fly helicopters". For this activity we need about 45 clean, empty long-life milk or juice boxes (1L size or larger). This equates to about 5 boxes per class. If students from these classes or anyone in the school could donate this in Japanese lessons or drop them in my pigeon hole, we would be sincerely grateful!!! :)

Miyamoto sensei

Hi everyone, you may have seen Miyamoto sensei at APS. She is working with me in the Japanese room and may sometimes work with Mrs Gehling because she used to teach high school science in Japan. Please feel free to say hello (or konnichiwa!) to her and help her feel welcome. Thank you!

Mine is room 15, past the gym and down the path towards Luhrs Rd, on your left. Come in and try your hand at origami! Have a look around the classroom/ at your child's folder, ask any questions you may have.
