Japanese Term 1 Program 2019

Foundation – Year 2

Students will be practising their greetings in Japanese, such as ohayo (good morning), konnichiwa (good afternoon), sayonara (good bye), mata raishuu (see you next week) – looking at different greetings for different times of the day.

Students will be learning how to introduce themselves with a simple bow. For example, Konnichiwa, Kate desu (Hello, I’m Kate)

Students will be learning classroom instructions in Japanese, singing songs and playing games to learn to follow these instructions at various parts of the lesson.

Students will be learning please and thank you in Japanese and the names of common classroom items such as enpitsu (pencil), keshigomu (eraser) so they can borrow and share items in Japanese.

Students will be learning about hanami (cherry blossom season) in Japan.

Year 3
Students will be practising their greetings in Japanese, such as ohayo gozaimasu (formal good morning), konnichiwa (good afternoon), mata raishuu (see you next week), konbanwa (good evening) oyasumi (good night) – looking at different greetings for different times of the day as well as how we use the formal ohayo gozaimasu for older people.

Students will be extending their self introductions with set phrases – hajimemashite (we are meeting for the first time), yoroshiku onegaishimasu (please think of me favourably).

Students will be revising their use of classroom stationery in Japanese and following classroom instructions in Japanese.

Students will also be learning basic weather vocabulary in Japanese to learn how to describe the weather.


Students will also be learning about hanami (cherry blossom season) in Japan.
